Two international airports are located in the city of Montreal, which provides direct flights to major cities in Canada and the U.S. as well as European cities. The Dorval airport is for most scheduled flights while the Mirabel airport serves mainly cargo and charters.

 

There are a lot of tourist attractions in Montreal and these are the reasons why many foreigners are drawn to visit this city. One of the popular attractions in this city is the Basilica of Notre Dame which is situated at Old Montreal.

This is considered as one of the marvelous churches in North America. Aside from that, it is also the largest church with the capacity of 5000 people. The Basilica of Notre Dame was said to be built between 1824 and 1829. It features a neo-gothic style, which is an epitome of magnificent cathedrals in Europe. The designs on the stained glass windows portray the original parish’s history. Masses held in this basilica are remarkable and attended by a great number of people.

 

In addition to the basilica, Montreal also boasts the Olympic Sports Complex, which took a remarkable twenty years for construction. The Montreal Tower, which is considered to be the tallest inclined tower in the world, is overhanging at the stadium at the Olympic Sports Complex. Tourists can also get a truly magnificent view of the city of Montreal through the cable cars.

Montreal also has a botanical garden, which is considered to be the third largest in the world. The Montreal Botanical Garden features ten large greenhouses that are open to the public. This botanical garden contains seven hundred different species of orchids as well as Japanese and Chinese gardens.

 

Aside from the wonderful tourist attractions in Montreal, it also has various festivities; hence, it is well-known to be portrayed as the city of festivals. Festivals occur throughout the year in Montreal. The Festival of Snow, or also more commonly known to Montreal natives Fête de Neiges, features activities such as skating, tube slides, and ice carving which is held towards the end of January. As for summer festivities, the International Fireworks Festival is held at La Ronde.

Visiting Montreal would not be complete without tasting the local specialty, which is the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich. This specialty is very popular around the world because no additives or chemicals are used. This delicacy is served by various shops, but among the popular are Ben’s, Schwartz’s and Smoke Meat Pete.
